The Hetjens – Deutsches Keramikmuseum was established in 1909, based on a bequest by Laurenz Heinrich Hetjens.

The collection of ceramics, earthenware, porcelaine and much more has grown over the years to 20,000 exhibition pieces. The Museum is the only museum worldwide showing the history of ceramics from its beginnings to the present.
